Aberdeen Leads Charge in Hydrogen Network Boost
Aberdeen Leads Charge in Hydrogen Network Boost
The University of Aberdeen is spearheading a groundbreaking project to strengthen the UK’s hydrogen distribution network. Named MHYSTIC, this initiative seeks to harness existing energy assets and skills to innovate in hydrogen transportation and storage. Backed by nearly £3 million in funding from the UK-HyRES Flexible Fund, the project is one of ten chosen to advance hydrogen and alternative fuel technologies.
Led by Dr. Alfonso Martinez-Felipe and a team of experts from the University’s School of Engineering, MHYSTIC aims to tackle the challenges of hydrogen leakage and steel embrittlement. The project involves collaboration with international partners like the Lithuanian Energy Institute and industry leaders such as the Aberdeen Renewable Energy Group and the European Marine Energy Centre.
The project is expected to yield significant academic and practical advancements, paving the way for hydrogen economies in Scotland and beyond. Running for 2.5 years, MHYSTIC stands as a testament to Aberdeen’s commitment to sustainable energy solutions.
